The Ashland County Historical Society will host its third annual Pumpkin Glow on Saturday, October 23, 2021, from 5 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Freer Home located at 1260 Center St. The family-friendly event features goodies handed out by local businesses, 300+ illuminated jack-o’-lanterns, food trucks, performances by local talents, Halloween music, and free tours of the Freer Children’s Home featuring a History of Halloween exhibit. The Pumpkin Glow will be a drive-thru event again this year after last year’s event attracted over 500 cars. Admission remains $5 per car. Guests are strongly encouraged to purchase tickets online before the event. Tickets will be on sale beginning September 1, 2021, and will be available on the Ashland County Historical Society website and Facebook page. Exact change will also be accepted at the entrance. The jack-o’-lanterns will guide cars around the property where local businesses will handout goodies. Guests will also have the option of parking their cars in the designated lot to enjoy food from one of three food trucks: The Roaming Donut, Dine-and-Dash, and Seiter’s BBQ. The Freer Home will also be open for tours at no extra charge. The first floor will be decorated for the season and will feature a brand-new exhibit: the History of Halloween. The exhibit traces the origins of Halloween from its Celtic roots to Halloween’s arrival in America. The exhibit also explores the evolution of modern icons such as black cats, scarecrows, and candy corn. Costumes are encouraged, but not required. Call the Ashland County Historical Society, 419-289-3111, with any questions on the event.
