“Living History Pioneers” Open Ashland Chautauqua Virtual Season

Ashland Chautauqua’s 2020 season has finally begun! The first of seven “Ashland Chautauqua Conversations” events is the video panel presentation by and about “Living History Pioneers”, which is ready for viewing now.

The scholar/panelists are George Frein (Mark Twain, Dr. Seuss, Herman Melville), Charles Pace (Frederick Douglass), Kevin Radaker (Henry Thoreau, C.S. Lewis), and Doug Watson (Will Rogers). These very personable panelists—all scholars who have performed in Ashland--are celebrating their 30th anniversary of traveling together in 1990 as part of the Great Plains Chautauqua Society. Their memories come to life in stories that are sure to bring back memories for anyone who has enjoyed a Chautauqua presentation in Brookside Park. Recording from their own homes in 2020 did not diminish their lively camaraderie or their passion for bringing history to life for local audiences around the country. In fact, this video and its follow-up Zoom live Q & A on November 19th, will be viewed by Chautauqua fans far beyond this part of Ohio.

The video of “Ashland Chautauqua Conversations: Living History Pioneers” can be viewed at  https://rb.gy/l7xjkf anytime between Thursday, November 5th and Thursday, November 19th. Questions should be sent in advance to info@ashlandchautauqua.org or posted on Ashland Chautauqua’s Facebook page. The live question & answer Zoom event will be held on November 19th at 7 pm EST with the four “Living History Pioneers” panelists. Full details and Zoom login information will be emailed to everyone who pre-registers by sending an email to info@ashlandchautauqua.org. The virtual Q & A will have the comfortable, intellectually stimulating spirit of the traditional Q & A sessions in the park.

Watch the video and pre-register for this special event! Email info@ashlandchautauqua.org to register or if you have any questions about this event.

The next Ashland Chautauqua Conversations event will be December 3rd. Scholar John Anderson will host a discussion of Ernest Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms. Interested participants are invited to read the book or just sit in for a lively and enlightening discussion. Anderson will portray Hemingway at Ashland Chautauqua 2021 at the Myers Memorial Band Shell in Brookside Park. The event theme will be “In Times of War”.

Ashland Chautauqua Conversations has been made possible with support from the Ohio Humanities, Ohio Arts Council, Ashland Main Street, and Explore Ashland.
